Job Description Head of Accounts

Position Title: Head of Accounts

Location: Mumbai (Chembur)

Role Purpose

The Head of Accounts will lead the accounting function across all SHM Group divisions and clusters. The role requires consolidating accounts, ensuring timely closure of books, verifying discrepancies raised by the MIS/audit team, and instituting standard accounting practices (SOPs) across the group. The incumbent will act as the central authority on compliance with Indian GAAP and Ind-AS, ensuring financial integrity, accuracy, and adherence to statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Consolidate accounts for all business divisions and clusters into a unified Group-level report leading to finalization of accounts.
  • Ensure timely monthly, quarterly, and annual closing of books.
  • Prepare consolidated financial statements in line with GAAP and Ind-AS.
  • Manage and mentor cluster-level Account Managers.
  • Coordinate with internal MIS and Audit teams to address discrepancies and ensure corrections.
  • Oversee statutory compliance including GST, TDS, corporate tax, and other regulatory filings.
  • Liaise with external auditors for statutory and tax audits; ensure smooth audit closure.
  • Design, implement, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for accounting across all clusters.
  • Strengthen internal controls, documentation, and reporting standards.
  • Partner with senior leadership, operations, and business heads to provide accurate and timely financial insights.
  • Liaising with the GST team for reconciliation, identifying and monitoring mismatches, and ensuring timely follow-up actions.
  • Overseeing statutory compliance, including MSME payments, Provident Fund (PF), and other regulatory obligations.
  • Managing tax accounting activities, including deferred tax computations, reconciliations, etc.
  • Maintaining and updating the Fixed Assets Register (FAR), along with preparing depreciation control charts and calculations.
  • Preparing notes to accounts and ensuring accurate disclosures in accordance with applicable regulations.

Desired Candidate Profile

Education & Credentials

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) mandatory.
  • Additional certifications (CFA/CPA) would be an advantage but not required.

Experience

  • 10 to 15 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 35 years in a leadership/group consolidation role.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing / engineering / industrial sectors preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple teams or cluster-level finance managers.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong working knowledge of Indian GAAP and Ind-AS.
  • Hands-on experience in consolidation, financial reporting, and statutory compliance.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP/Oracle/Tally ERP or similar) and advanced Excel.
  • Understanding of MIS processes and audit frameworks.
