Job Description:

  • Migrate and format legacy manuals (Word, PDF, XML, In Design) into the clients standardised InDesign templates.
  • Apply consistent styles, pagination, headings, tables, callouts, and warnings across all documents.
  • Insert, resize, and caption product images, diagrams, and schematics.
  • Ensure accuracy of specifications, tables, and units (metric/imperial).
  • Perform preflight checks and generate clean, error-free PDFs.
  • Work closely with the Technical Writer to ensure consistency in terminology and content flow.
  • Participate in review cycles, implement reviewer comments, and prepare final deliverables.
  • Maintain version control and document changes systematically.

Essential Skills:

  • 210 years of experience in publishing/typesetting, preferably with large manuals, books, or technical documents.
  • Strong hands-on skills in Adobe InDesign.
  • Familiarity with template creation, master pages, TOC, indexing, and paragraph/character styles.
  • Experience handling tables, equations, and complex layouts.
  • Working knowledge of XML / structured publishing workflows is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Illustrator/Photoshop for minor image edits is desirable.
  • Good attention to detail, quality focus, and ability to work on volume projects.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with structured authoring tools (FrameMaker, Oxygen xml)
  • Familiarity with DITA/XML publishing workflows.
  • Exposure to technical manuals for engineering/industrial products.
  • Basic knowledge of standards and compliance (ISO, ANSI, NIST unit conventions, accessibility/508 compliance).
  • Ability to do light image editing in Illustrator/Photoshop (icons, line diagrams, schematics).
  • Knowledge of version control systems (Git, SVN, or CMS platforms) for managing documents.
