About the Opportunity

Healthcare — Ophthalmology / Eye Care: A well-established tertiary eye-care service in India is expanding its surgical retina team to strengthen clinical outcomes and surgical capacity. This on-site consultant role focuses on delivering high-quality vitreoretinal care across outpatient clinics, operating theatres, and multidisciplinary retina services.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive outpatient and inpatient vitreoretinal care: diagnose and manage retinal disorders including diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, macular holes, and vitreous hemorrhage.
  • Perform high-volume microsurgery (pars plana vitrectomy, scleral buckle, membrane peeling) and deliver safe, evidence-based intravitreal therapies (anti-VEGF, corticosteroids).
  • Interpret retinal imaging (OCT, FFA, wide-field fundus) to guide surgical decisions and medical management; document findings accurately in EMR.
  • Lead perioperative planning and postoperative follow-up to optimise outcomes, minimise complications, and ensure timely rehabilitation.
  • Collaborate with cataract and anterior-segment surgeons for combined procedures and multidisciplinary clinical pathways.
  • Contribute to quality improvement, audit, and training of junior ophthalmologists, optometrists, and theatre teams to uphold clinical governance.
Skills & Qualifications

Must-Have

  • MBBS with MS/DO (Ophthalmology) and a recognised fellowship or equivalent training in vitreoretinal surgery.
  • 3+ years of independent retinal surgery experience with a documented surgical log of PPV and retinal detachment repairs.
  • Proven skills in intravitreal injections, laser photocoagulation, and OCT/FFA interpretation.
  • Strong surgical judgement, manual microsurgical skills, and familiarity with modern vitreoretinal instrumentation.

Preferred

  • Experience with combined phaco-vitrectomy, small-gauge vitrectomy systems (23/25/27G), and wide-angle viewing systems.
  • Prior exposure to teaching, clinical audits, research publications, or participation in clinical trials in retinal disease.
