Role Summary

The Design & Planning Engineer will be responsible for preparing layouts, detailed drawings, space planning, and furniture placement for client projects. The role includes design coordination, BOQ preparation, cost estimation, and ensuring seamless execution between design, production, and project teams.

This position requires strong technical expertise, AutoCAD proficiency, analytical thinking, and experience working in the furniture or interior project domain.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design & Layout Planning

  • Create and modify 2D layouts, furniture placement drawings, and space planning designs.
  • Develop detailed plans for modular furniture, workstation layouts, storage systems, partitions, and office interiors.
  • Ensure accuracy in measurements and comply with ergonomic & functional standards.
  • Convert client concepts into workable design drawings.

2. Technical Drawing & Documentation

  • Prepare detailed AutoCAD drawings including elevations, sections, joinery details, and fabrication drawings.
  • Coordinate with design, R&D, and production teams for technical clarity.
  • Maintain version control and ensure updated drawings are shared across teams.

3. Cost Estimation & BOQ Preparation

  • Prepare quantity take-offs, material calculations, and cost estimates.
  • Create BOQs based on approved layouts and client requirements.
  • Analyze cost-efficient design solutions without compromising on quality.

4. Coordination with Internal Teams

  • Collaborate with production for feasibility checks and technical validation.
  • Coordinate with purchase for material selection, specifications, and costing.
  • Work closely with the project execution team to ensure design intent is achieved onsite.
  • Assist sales and corporate teams with drawings needed for tenders or client proposals.

5. Client Interaction & Site Understanding

  • Understand client requirements and convert briefs into functional designs.
  • Visit client sites for measurements, design verification, and practical understanding (if required).
  • Update layouts as per feedback and final approval.

6. Quality & Compliance

  • Ensure all designs follow company standards, ergonomic principles, and product guidelines.
  • Validate that final drawings align with production capabilities and installation requirements.

Required Skills & Technical Competencies

  • AutoCAD (Expert Level)
    – mandatory
  • Excel (Advanced level for cost estimation)
  • Experience in
    furniture design, interior layouts, or modular planning
  • Ability to read architectural drawings, structural layouts, and MEP coordination basics
  • Strong understanding of materials, hardware, and manufacturing processes
  • BOQ preparation, costing, and technical documentation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering
  • B.Tech in Civil Engineering
  • B.Arch / Interior Design background (preferred but not mandatory if experience is strong)
  • Experience working in a
    furniture manufacturing company, modular interior firm, or architectural consultancy
