Job Title: System Administrator/DevOps Engineer (Proxmox VE/MicroStack Specialist)

We seek a skilled System Administrator/DevOps Engineer to set up, manage, and optimize a single-server cloud environment using Proxmox VE or MicroStack. You'll be hands-on, building a production-ready MVP for beta users (5-20 clients) while ensuring security, compliance (e.g., DPDP Act), and scalability. This role is ideal for a proactive techie who thrives in a startup environment and wants to grow into a lead role as we scale.

Key Responsibilities

Server Setup & Management:

Install and configure Proxmox VE (preferred) or MicroStack on a bare-metal server (e.g., Dell PowerEdge, 16-core CPU, 64 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD + 4 TB HDD).

Provision 10-20 VMs (Ubuntu/Debian) or containers (LXC/Docker) for compute services.

Set up storage pools (ZFS/LVM or Ceph) and user-facing file storage (e.g., Nextcloud/Seafile).

Networking:

Configure virtual networking (Open vSwitch or Linux bridges) for VM/container isolation.

Set up NAT, public IPs, and secure access (e.g., HTTPS, WireGuard VPN) using a static IP or dynamic DNS.

Implement firewall rules (UFW/iptables) and QoS for bandwidth limits.

Security & Compliance:

Secure the server with SSL (Let's Encrypt), MFA, and encryption (at rest/transit).

Ensure compliance with India's DPDP Act 2023 (data consent, logging, transparency).

Harden server against threats (e.g., Fail2Ban, regular patching).

Monitoring & Automation:

Deploy Prometheus/Grafana for CPU, RAM, storage, and network monitoring; set up alerts for >80% utilization or downtime.

Automate VM provisioning and backups using Bash/Python scripts or Ansible.

User Onboarding:

Configure a self-service portal (Proxmox UI or OpenStack Horizon) for client access.

Integrate basic billing/usage tracking (e.g., via API or scripts).

Testing & Optimization:

Stress-test the server (e.g., using stress-ng) to ensure 99% uptime.

Optimize performance (e.g., tune ZFS ARC cache, prioritize SSD for I/O-heavy tasks).

Future Prep:

Document setup for scalability (e.g., clustering with Proxmox or OpenStack).

Recommend upgrades (e.g., RAM, NVMe) based on beta feedback.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Experience: 2-5 years in Linux system administration or DevOps, with hands-on work in virtualization or cloud platforms.

Core Technical Skills:

Expertise in Proxmox VE (preferred) or MicroStack/OpenStack (setup, VM/container management, storage).

Strong Linux skills (Ubuntu/Debian; CLI proficiency, e.g., systemd, cron).

Virtualization: KVM/QEMU, LXC, or Docker.

Networking: TCP/IP, VLANs, Open vSwitch, iptables/UFW, NAT, DNS.

Storage: ZFS, LVM, or Ceph; familiarity with Nextcloud/Seafile.

Scripting: Bash, Python, or Ansible for automation.

Security: Knowledge of SSL/TLS, MFA, encryption; familiarity with India's DPDP Act 2023.

Monitoring: Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, or similar.

Soft Skills:

Problem-solving under resource constraints (e.g., single-server limits).

Clear documentation and communication for startup environment.

Ability to work independently and propose optimizations.

Education: Bachelor's in Computer Science/IT or equivalent experience. Certifications (preferred): RHCSA, CompTIA Server+, AWS Certified SysOps, or Canonical OpenStack.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with edge computing or micro data centers in India.

Familiarity with India's infra challenges (e.g., power reliability, Jio/Airtel networking).

Prior work with colocation providers (CtrlS, Yotta, Sify).

Knowledge of billing APIs (e.g., Stripe, Paytm) or usage metering
