About Job

As an Associate Director - Auto Pricing and Underwriting at ACKO, you will be responsible for driving the long-term profitability and growth of our Auto Insurance Business. This role requires close collaboration with Tech and Marketing teams to identify opportunities that align with our underwriting strategy, while ensuring the lifetime value of our customers. You will also work closely with the Growth and Product team to understand emerging customer needs and develop viable, profitable pricing and underwriting strategy.

In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing the portfolio from the perspective of the impact of underwriting on claims, working with the Data Science team to monitor, enhance, and implement changes to our flagship Machine Learning-based Pricing Engine, and managing the day-to-day pricing and underwriting operations.

Skills & Qualification

  • Sharp analytical mind with the ability to think on your feet and devise innovative solutions to complex insurance product design and pricing problems.

  • Experience in insurance, pricing, or underwriting is a plus, but not required.

  • Successful leadership and people management experience, with a proven track record of guiding teams to achieve business objectives.

  • 6+ years of experience in a related field.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Experience with data analysis and interpretation.

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement pricing and underwriting strategies to drive long-term profitability of the Auto Insurance Business.

  • Work closely with Sales and Marketing teams to identify opportunities and ensure alignment with underwriting strategy.

  • Collaborate with the Growth and Product team to understand emerging customer needs and develop viable, profitable pricing models.

  • Analyze the portfolio from the perspective of the impact of underwriting on claims, and identify areas for improvement.

  • Work with the Data Science team to monitor, enhance, and implement changes to the Machine Learning-based Pricing Engine.

  • Manage the day-to-day underwriting tasks, ensuring efficient and effective operations.

  • Continuously monitor and update underwriting rules and SOP to maintain risk within the risk appetite and underwriting policy.

  • Oversee the development of technology platforms to support underwriting activities, and provide requirements to product managers and technology developers.

  • Test and iterate on the platform to ensure seamless underwriting operations.

  • Continuously monitor market underwriting practices and product availability, and conduct market research as needed.
