Crane Operator

A crane operator JD includes operating cranes to lift, move, and position heavy materials, conducting pre-operation inspections to ensure safety, and communicating with other workers. Responsibilities also involve following safety regulations, performing basic maintenance and repairs, keeping logs, and interpreting lift plans and signals.

Key responsibilities

• Operate cranes:

  Manipulate controls (levers, pedals, buttons) to lift, move, and position heavy loads accurately and efficiently.

• Perform inspections:

  Conduct daily checks of the crane and its parts to ensure safe working condition, documenting any defects or malfunctions.

• Ensure safety:

  Adhere to all safety regulations, procedures, and standard operating procedures. Place outriggers or blocks for stability and ensure loads are within the crane's limits.

• Communicate with team:

  Coordinate with ground crew (riggers, signalers) using verbal or hand signals, and communicate with site supervisors and engineers to understand job requirements and plans.

• Perform maintenance and repairs:

  Conduct minor repairs and maintenance on the crane equipment as needed.

• Maintain records:

  Complete daily logs of material transportation, equipment usage, and any issues or maintenance performed.

Required skills and qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret load charts, lift plans, and verbal/hand signals.
• Experience with various types of cranes, such as mobile, tower, or overhead cranes, depending on the job.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
• Willingness to work overtime and potentially on-call.
• Physical fitness and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
