Key Responsibilities


•Develop and Maintain QMS: Establish, implement, and maintain a robust Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards and other relevant certifications.


•Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all fabrication, welding, inspection, and testing procedures adhere to national and international standards, and specific customer requirements.


•Audit Management: Lead and manage all internal, external, customer, and third-party audits. Drive closure of all Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) arising from audits or non-conformances.


•Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs): Oversee the preparation, approval, and rigorous execution of detailed ITPs for all stages of tank fabrication, including cutting, bending, welding, sand/shot blasting, and painting/surface treatment.


•Material Quality: Manage Incoming Quality Control (IQC) for all raw materials (e.g., steel plates, sections, pipes) and bought-out items (e.g., valves, accessories) to ensure they meet specifications and have proper Mill Test Certificates (MTCs).


•Welding and Fabrication: Directly supervise welding quality control, ensuring compliance with Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Welder Qualification Records (WQR/WPQR). Oversee Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities (DP, UT, Radiography) and final dimensional inspections.


•Pressure and Leak Testing: Be responsible for hydrostatic pressure testing, vacuum tests, and leak tests of transformer tanks as per design and customer specifications.


•Surface Treatment: Ensure the quality of surface preparation (shot/sand blasting) and the final painting system (adherence, DFT checks) as per required standards and paint specifications.


•Data Analysis: Monitor and analyse key quality metrics, including 5 Whys, rework cost, and cost of poor quality (COPQ).


•Problem Solving: Lead cross-functional teams using structured methodologies like Root Cause Analysis (RCA), 8D, and FMEA to investigate major internal and external non-conformities and customer complaints.


•Improvement Initiatives: Drive continuous improvement initiatives such as Kaizen etc to reduce defects and scrap and increase process efficiency.


•Team Management: Train, mentor, and lead the team of quality engineers and QC inspectors.


•Customer and Vendor Interaction: Act as the primary technical point of contact for customer quality inspections and sign-offs. Work closely with the supply chain team to establish and improve supplier quality assurance (SQA).


•Inter-Departmental Coordination: Collaborate with Production, Planning, Engineering, and Design teams to embed quality processes from the initial design stage through to final dispatch.

Skills


• 8+ years of experience in quality assurance/control, with a minimum of 5 years in a managerial role within a heavy fabrication, transformer tank manufacturing environment.


• In-depth, practical working knowledge of Indian and international fabrication standards (IS, IEC, ASME, AWS/ISO welding codes).


•Experience in welding technology, NDT methods, and industrial painting/surface preparation.
