Filing Clerk & Typist – Deshpande & Company
Deshpande & Company, a well-established and reputed legal practice, is seeking a responsible, organised, and detail-oriented Filing Clerk & Typist to join our team. This dual-role position is critical to the smooth functioning of our office, ensuring that legal documents are accurately typed, properly maintained, and efficiently organised for daily legal operations. The ideal candidate should be dependable, punctual, and capable of handling sensitive information with the highest level of confidentiality.
The candidate will be responsible for typing legal drafts, petitions, contracts, notices, letters, and other documents as per advocate instructions, along with maintaining a systematic filing system for case papers and office records. The role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow instructions precisely, and a willingness to learn the structure and format of legal documentation. Candidates with prior experience in a law office or legal documentation will be given preference, though applicants with strong typing skills and excellent organisational abilities will also be considered.
This position offers valuable exposure to court procedures, legal drafting, and administrative work within the legal domain. It is well suited for someone who wishes to build a long-term career in a legal setup and enjoys structured, documentation-focused work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Typing legal documents, petitions, case papers, notices, and correspondence from drafts, dictation, or handwritten notes
- Formatting documents as per legal standards and ensuring grammatical accuracy
- Maintaining and organising physical and digital case files, registers, and records
- Labelling, sorting, and filing documents systematically for easy retrieval
- Preparing filing sets, photocopying, scanning, and arranging papers for court matters
- Logging incoming and outgoing documents, maintaining document trackers, and updating records regularly
- Assisting advocates in managing paperwork and administrative tasks
- Ensuring confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive case information
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong typing speed with high accuracy
- Good command over English and Marathi (reading & typing)
- Proficiency in MS Word, PDF tools, scanning, and basic computer operations
- Excellent organisational and filing skills
- Ability to follow structured processes and maintain neat documentation
- High attention to detail, reliability, and a disciplined work approach
- Prior experience in a legal office (preferred but not mandatory)
- Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple tasks efficiently
