Role Objective

To plan, schedule, and control production activities to ensure on-time delivery, optimal utilization of resources, and adherence to quality standards while minimizing production costs and delays.

Key Responsibilities

1. Production Planning

• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production plans based on sales forecasts, confirmed orders, and inventory levels.
• Coordinate with the sales, procurement, and stores teams to align raw material availability with production requirements.
• Develop and maintain production schedules to ensure timely delivery and customer satisfaction.

2. Capacity & Resource Management

• Assess machine capacity, manpower availability, and shift requirements to meet production targets.
• Ensure optimal utilization of machines, tools, and workforce to avoid bottlenecks and downtime.
• Plan preventive maintenance schedules with the maintenance team to minimize breakdowns.

3. Material Requirement Planning (MRP)

• Generate material requisitions based on the bill of materials (BOM) and production plans.
• Work closely with the purchase department to ensure timely procurement of raw materials and consumables.
• Monitor and control work-in-progress (WIP) and finished goods inventory.

4. Production Control & Monitoring

• Track production output, analyze deviations from plan, and take corrective actions.
• Monitor rejections, rework, and production losses, and implement measures for reduction.
• Maintain accurate daily production reports and MIS for management review.

5. Coordination & Communication

• Liaise with design, sales, and logistics teams for smooth order execution and dispatch planning.
• Conduct daily production review meetings with supervisors and line leaders.
• Communicate plan changes, priorities, and urgent orders effectively to shopfloor teams.

6. Process Improvement & Cost Optimization

• Identify areas for process improvement, cycle time reduction, and waste minimization.
• Support implementation of lean manufacturing practices, Kaizen, and 5S initiatives.
• Contribute to reducing cost per unit through better planning and productivity improvement.

7. Compliance & Documentation

• Ensure production records are updated and maintained as per ISO / quality standards.
• Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and compliance requirements on the shopfloor.

Key Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of production planning techniques (MRP, JIT, Line Balancing).
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes, BOM, and routing.
• Proficiency in MS Excel, ERP systems, and production planning software.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and team management skills.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement tools is preferred.

Qualifications & Experience

• Education: B.Tech / B.E. / Diploma in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering.
• Experience: 5–8 years in production planning & control (preferably in building products, fabrication, or similar manufacturing industry).
• ERP Knowledge: SAP / Tally ERP / or any production planning software preferred.
