Job Purpose

To lead the engineering review, design validation, and technical coordination of all instrumentation and control (I&C) systems related to the steam turbine, generator, and auxiliary systems in a thermal power plant. This role ensures that EPC contractor submittals meet functional, performance, and safety requirements as per the Owners specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and approve control system architecture, logic diagrams, loop diagrams, and I/O lists related to turbine and generator systems.
  • Evaluate control philosophies and functional design documents for turbine governing, protection, startup/shutdown logic, and emergency shutdown systems.
  • Ensure proper interface of control and instrumentation systems with turbine auxiliaries such as gland steam system, lube oil system, turning gear, etc.
  • Verify compliance with safety interlocks, redundancy schemes, SIL requirements, and cybersecurity standards.
  • Review control system integration with DCS, EWS, and SCADA.
  • Ensure accurate instrumentation selection for critical parameters (pressure, temperature, speed, vibration, etc.).
  • Conduct and/or participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) for control panels and instruments.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and auxiliary system engineers for control and instrumentation requirements.
  • Resolve technical queries from EPC, vendors, and site team during engineering and execution phases.
  • Assist in loop checking, I&C installation supervision, and commissioning oversight.

Required Qualifications

  • B.E./B.Tech in Instrumentation / Electronics / Control Systems Engineering.
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in turbine I&C systems in thermal power plants (500 MW and above).
  • Experience in OEM control systems (GE Mark VI/VIe, Siemens SPPA-T3000, BHEL ICS, Emerson, Yokogawa etc.).

Preferred Skills & Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of turbine governing systems, trip logic, and automatic control systems.
  • Familiarity with international standards: ISA, IEC 61508, SIL etc).
  • Working knowledge of field instrumentation, vibration monitoring systems, and test procedures.
  • Experience in DCS integration and HMI interface engineering.
