Job Summary:

The IVF Operation Theatre Nurse is responsible for assisting in all surgical and procedural activities related to assisted reproduction, including oocyte retrieval, embryo transfer, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, and related procedures. The role involves maintaining sterility, preparing the OT, supporting the medical team, and ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Operation Theatre Preparation & Maintenance

  • Prepare the OT before each procedure check all equipment, instruments, and consumables.
  • Ensure sterility of the OT as per IVF and hospital protocols.
  • Maintain and monitor equipment such as suction machines, anaesthesia machines, microscopes, and incubators.
  • Coordinate with the embryology lab and ensure smooth communication during oocyte retrieval and embryo transfer.

2. Assistance During Procedures

  • Assist the IVF specialist during oocyte pick-up (OPU), embryo transfer (ET), hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, and other gynaecological procedures.
  • Handle instruments, catheters, and devices required during IVF procedures.
  • Monitor the patients vitals before, during, and after the procedure.
  • Ensure smooth coordination between the OT and embryology laboratory during critical steps like oocyte collection.

3. Patient Care

  • Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and safety during pre- and post-operative periods.
  • Educate patients about pre-procedure and post-procedure care instructions.
  • Assist in transferring patients safely in and out of the OT.

4. Documentation & Inventory

  • Maintain accurate records of all OT activities, procedures performed, and consumables used.
  • Manage inventory of sterile supplies, medications, and instruments used in IVF procedures.
  • Report and record any equipment malfunction or procedural complications.

5. Infection Control & Quality Assurance

  • Adhere strictly to infection control policies and sterile techniques.
  • Participate in quality audits, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with IVF and hospital regulatory standards.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of OT protocols and sterilization techniques.
  • Familiarity with IVF procedures and ART instruments.
  • Good communication and coordination skills.
  • Empathetic and patient-centered approach.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to protocols.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Education: Diploma or B.Sc. in Nursing
  • Experience: 26 years of experience in IVF or gynaecology OT preferred.
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS); Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
