Computer Lab Assistant – Job Description

Position Summary

A Computer Lab Assistant supports the daily operations of a computer lab by helping students and staff, maintaining equipment, ensuring proper lab usage, and providing basic technical support. This role requires strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with common computer applications and hardware.

Key Responsibilities

1. Technical Support

Provide assistance with computer software, hardware, and peripheral devices.

Troubleshoot common issues such as login problems, printing errors, and connectivity issues.

Install, update, and configure software under supervision.

Assist users with educational or work-related applications (Office suites, browsers, learning platforms, etc.).

2. Lab Operations & Maintenance

Ensure all computers, printers, and equipment are functioning properly.

Perform routine checks, cleaning, and minor maintenance on lab equipment.

Report technical problems to IT staff or supervisors promptly.

Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies (keyboards, mice, toner, cables, etc.).

3. User Assistance

Provide guidance to students, faculty, or staff on lab policies and proper equipment use.

Support users with printing, scanning, and file management tasks.

Assist with basic digital literacy (typing, file handling, using email, etc.).

4. Administrative & Support Duties

Monitor lab environment to ensure a quiet, clean, and productive workspace.

Enforce lab rules regarding usage, time limits, and proper conduct.

Record lab usage data and submit reports when required.

Help with scheduling and reserving lab space for classes or events.

or equivalent (some institutions prefer current students or IT-related majors).

EXPERIECNES AND QUALIFICATION

MCA/BCA in comp. science with 2-5 years of experiecnes and expertise in modern educational softwares and IT tools

Basic knowledge of computer hardware and software troubleshooting.

Prior customer service or technical experience is a plus.

Skills

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to beginners.

Good problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

Ability to multitask and remain calm in busy environments.

Job Type: Full-time
