About the Role
Surlon Group is expanding its R&D division and seeking a
Hydraulic Design Engineer
to develop
hydraulic shock absorbers and damping systems
for global applications used in transportation and industrial applications worldwide.
This is a
design-focused
role — ideal for an engineer who can
design from first principles
, perform complete
hydraulic and mechanical calculations
, and translate performance requirements into manufacturable designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop
hydraulic shock absorbers
and
damping systems
end-to-end. - Perform
oil flow and pressure drop calculations
for valves, orifices, and flow paths. - Develop and tune
force–velocity and force–displacement curves
to achieve target damping characteristics. - Simulate hydraulic behavior using
Simcenter AMESim
,
MATLAB/SimHydraulics
, or
Automation Studio
. - Conduct
CFD and FEA
(ANSYS / COMSOL / SolidWorks Flow) for valve, piston, and housing optimization. - Prepare
design documentation
, including calculation reports, validation plans, and test correlation studies. - Work with
prototype and testing teams
to validate products through
HEICO, BISS, or MTS
dynamic test rigs and correlate design simulations with real test data. - Collaborate with
manufacturing and suppliers
to ensure design feasibility and durability.
Required Expertise
- Strong fundamentals in
fluid mechanics
,
hydraulic damping theory
, and
dynamic systems
. - Proven experience in
valve/orifice sizing
,
flow coefficient analysis
, and
force–velocity modeling
. - Hands-on with
hydraulic simulation tools
:
Simcenter AMESim, SimHydraulics (MATLAB), Automation Studio, or HydroSym. - Skilled in
CAD (SolidWorks/CATIA)
and
CFD/FEA
for design optimization. - Exposure to
hydraulic damper testing systems
such as
HEICO
,
BISS
, or
MTS
or related for performance validation and correlation. - 5–10 years of product design experience in
hydraulic shock absorbers or damping systems
. B.E./M.Tech
in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Hydraulic Engineering.Work on
international damping technology programs
from concept to production.- Be part of a
growing R&D environment
focused on performance, safety, and innovation. - Full ownership of product development — from
