Total Station Surveyor – Job Roles & Responsibilities
Site Survey & Data Collection
Carry out topographical surveys
Measure distance, angles, elevations
Conduct boundary & land surveys
Record accurate field data using Total Station & GPS
Setting Out / Layout Work (Very Important)
Mark building center lines, grid lines
Layout columns, foundations, footings
Fix levels, plinth levels, floor levels
Alignment of roads, drains, utilities
Construction Support
Check excavation levels
Verify RCC work positions
Ensure construction matches approved drawings
Monitor tolerances & alignment
Quantity & Measurement Support
Assist in earthwork calculations
Measure cut & fill quantities
Support billing & BOQ verification
Maintain measurement records
Data Processing & Reporting
Download survey data from Total Station
Prepare survey drawings (AutoCAD)
Update as-built drawings
Submit daily / weekly survey reports
Coordination & Safety
Coordinate with site engineers & contractors
Follow site safety norms
Handle instruments carefully & do calibration checks
Tools & Software Used
Total Station (Leica, Topcon, Sokkia, Trimble)
GPS / DGPS (project dependent)
AutoCAD / Civil 3D
Field books & digital logs
Skills Required
Strong understanding of survey principles
Ability to read drawings & levels
Good AutoCAD knowledge
Accuracy & attention to detail
Qualification (India)
ITI / Diploma / B.E. in Civil Engineering
Survey certification (preferred)
Total Station Surveyor → Senior Surveyor → Survey Engineer
