Lead Engineer – Investment Platform

The Investment Platform vertical has been established to provide Digital change capability for all teams in the investment value chain. This vertical has successfully delivered major transformation initiatives in the last couple of years including the delivery of a strategic investments applications and creating a digital platform (Azure and Apigee) using Agile methods.  The primary objectives for the Investment Platform IT vertical are to: 

•    Build a function that can deliver change at the pace and scale required for an organisation undertaking sustained transformation

•    Remove barriers between the business and our team, creating trust and fostering a culture of innovation 

•    Transform the method of delivery to an end-to-end capability where change is driven through multi-disciplined, business-led teams
We are seeking a "Lead Engineer" for Investment Platform with the right blend of software engineering and data skills, and domain knowledge to help us expand our digital capability. There will be significant focus on working with outcome delivery managers, change managers, multiple change and run teams of technology partners to deliver the Investment Platform objectives.
Your key priorities will gravitate around leading the design & development of solutions to support the build of a market leading Investment Platform to meet increased demands across the investment teams, clients and the regulators.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

• Contributing to the engineering roadmap and driving continuous improvement within their area of expertise
• Deliver stories within the agreed timelines
• Develop end-to-end scalable solutions and contribute to their implementation
• Conduct thorough code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers
• Contribute actively in design and problem solving
• Solve complex technical problems and provide innovative solutions
• Actively support other team members where problems arise
• Ensuring high-quality engineering practices within their projects
• Ensuring any solutions designed meets M&G standards
• Collaborate with key stakeholders - outcome delivery managers, engineering lead, lead engineer, enterprise architecture, technology partners, SRE, and other platforms
• Take part in engineering community for learning and sharing
• Assist the Investment Platform's change and run teams in delivering their objectives
• Collaborate across multiple disciplines to improve working practices
• Identify improvement opportunities and suggest processes or ways of working to address them
• Work within established frameworks and procedures to solve problems
• Suggest improvements based on experience and knowledge
• Assist Lead Engineer in presenting solution designs for approval 
• Build and maintain strong relationships with all key stakeholders in the Front Office, Sustainability focused teams, Transformation & Innovation or the engineering community

Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Educational Qualification

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS (KEY):

• Good software engineering skills paired with expertise C# and .Net    
• A good understanding of DevOps principles and experience in building CI/CD pipelines
• Good experience working with data on Azure including Azure Data Lake, ADLA, Cosmos DB, SQL, and Datafactory
• Demonstrates Architectural Excellence by developing solutions using the guiding tenets of Azure Well-Architected Framework covering reliability, security, cost optimisation, operational excellence and performance efficiency
• Has good Azure experience on PaaS services such as App Service, Function App, Logic App, Data Factory, Service Bus and Key Vault
• Understands Azure AD, Service Principals and Managed Identities to configure role based access for web applications
• Is able to investigate application issues by using telemetry and Application Insights information
• Has experience with REST APIs and Microservices and API management on Apigee
• Follows best coding practices using SOLID principles, design patterns and other industry standards
• Proactive self-starter who can manage their own workload and can juggle multiple priorities at the same time
• Experience working in an agile environment and good understanding of integrating testing withing the SDLC
• Applying a "solutions" mentality for any outcome that you are assigned to and ensure proper solutions design is considered 
• Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both written and orally, within a project team
• Ability to identify problems and have the drive to follow them through to resolution
• Good attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and work efficiently to project deadlines

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS (DESIRABLE):

• Relevant experience developing back or frontend solutions (e.g. On Azure Cloud, Angular, React, software frameworks)
• Exposure to financial markets & asset management processes and understand analysis into a wide variety of asset classes and associated analytics (e.g. Equity, Fixed Income, Private Assets etc)
• Exposure to data visualisation tools - Power BI or equivalent

EXPERIENCE:

• 10 + years of total experience in software engineering
• 3 + years of experience in a core engineering role in the cloud

• Graduate in any discipline
