Job Title: Laboratory Assistant

Reports To: Senior Chemist / Laboratory Manager
Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to support day-to-day laboratory operations in a coal mining environment. The Lab Assistant will assist with sample collection, preparation, testing, data recording, and maintaining a clean and safe lab environment under the supervision of senior laboratory staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect coal samples from designated locations (e.g., mine site, stockpile, conveyor belt).

  • Prepare and label samples for testing (crushing, grinding, moisture control, etc.).

  • Assist in conducting standard tests including moisture, ash, volatile matter, fixed carbon, and calorific value.

  • Record test data accurately and maintain laboratory logs.

  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and tools.

  • Follow safety protocols and use PPE (personal protective equipment) at all times.

  • Dispose of waste materials according to environmental and safety standards.

  • Support inventory management of chemicals, reagents, and glassware.

  • Assist senior chemists with advanced analysis as required.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Certificate in Chemistry, Science, or Laboratory Technology.

  • 1–3 years of experience in an industrial or mining lab setting preferred.

  • Basic understanding of chemical testing procedures and lab safety.

  • Good observational and organizational skills.

  • Ability to work in shifts and in a dusty/mining environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with coal testing standards (ASTM/ISO).

  • Basic computer skills for data entry and reporting.

  • Ability to handle laboratory instruments safely and accurately.
