Job Description:

An electrician for a power plant substation job involves installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing high-voltage electrical equipment like transformers and circuit breakers to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the power grid. Key duties include performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting faults, and keeping detailed records of all activities, while also following strict safety protocols and coordinating with other crews during maintenance or emergencies.  

Core responsibilities

  • Installation and Repair: 
    Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear. 


  • Maintenance: 
    Perform routine and preventative maintenance, such as inspections, oil sampling, and cleaning equipment to prevent breakdowns. 


  • Troubleshooting and Diagnostics: 
    Test electrical systems and equipment to identify and diagnose malfunctions and solve complex problems. 


  • Operations: 
    Monitor and operate substation equipment to ensure optimal performance and respond to alarms and abnormal conditions. 


  • Safety and Compliance: 
    Adhere to all safety regulations and operating procedures to ensure the safety of personnel and the reliability of the power system. 


  • Record Keeping: 
    Maintain accurate logs of all maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs for compliance and long-term planning. 


  • Collaboration: 
    Coordinate with other technicians, field crews, and supervisors to carry out maintenance and respond to emergencies.

  • Ability to follow strict safety protocols and procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, especially under pressure.
