About the role

The Senior Backend Engineer will be a core technical contributor across Altellect's multi-venture ecosystem, working with product and engineering teams to build reliable, scalable, and modular backend systems. The role requires strong engineering fundamentals, the ability to work across multiple ventures simultaneously, and comfort operating in a fast-moving, ambiguity-heavy environment where rapid iteration and clean execution are essential. This person will support 0→1 builds, enhance and stabilise existing platforms, and contribute to internal engineering frameworks that accelerate venture delivery.

JD & Key Responsibilities

Backend Architecture & Development

1. Build and maintain backend systems, microservices, and APIs powering multiple ventures.
2. Design modular architectures that can be replicated, forked, or scaled across ventures.
3. Develop high-quality, secure, and maintainable code aligned with engineering standards.
4. Drive performance optimisation, refactoring, and scalability across systems.

Delivery & Execution

1. Convert broad venture requirements into technical solutions and backend implementation plans.
2. Manage multiple parallel development streams with clarity and prioritisation.
3. Support production deployment, release management, and incident resolution.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
5. Work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to ensure alignment.
6. Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and sprint planning.
7. Contribute to documentation, development guidelines, and internal tooling.

Quality & Reliability

1. Set up testing frameworks, CI/CD workflows, monitoring, and logging across ventures.
2. Ensure system reliability, uptime, and data integrity for services in production.
3. Engineering Culture
4. Contribute to engineering best practices and internal standards at the venture studio level.
5. Mentor younger engineers on backend fundamentals and debugging approaches.
6. Advocate for clean architecture and thoughtful modular design.

Key responsibilities

1. Design, develop, and maintain backend modules and microservices.
2. Integrate backend logic with frontend applications and data layers.
3. Write clean, efficient, maintainable code following engineering best practices.
4. Optimize systems for performance, scalability, reliability, and resilience.
5. Implement strong security, authentication, and data protection measures.
6. Collaborate with DevOps & QA teams to ensure smooth releases and post-deployment stability.
7. Monitor application health using modern observability tools.

Experience / Background

1. 5+ years of hands-on backend development experience.
2. Strong exposure to microservices, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.
3. Deep understanding of backend engineering concepts, API design, and integration patterns.
4. Solid experience deploying and maintaining applications in cloud environments.
5. Experience in working with engineering best practices, automation, and modern SDLC.

Expected Tech stack expertise:

Must have:

1. Backend: Python, , JS
2. Databases: MySQL or MongoDB.
3. Architecture: Microservices, Event-driven systems.
4. Integration: REST APIs, Kafka or Azure Event Hub, Socket
5. AI-driven Development: Hands-on experience with agentic AI coding assistants/tools.

Good to have:

1. DevOps & Cloud: Azure DevOps, CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes.
2. Caching/Monitoring: Redis, Grafana, ELK Stack.
3. Observability tools: Application performance monitors, log aggregators.
4. Security frameworks: Auth, encryption, secrets management.
