Job Title: PostgreSQL Developer (PostGIS & Geometry Specialist)

About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled PostgreSQL Developer with deep expertise in PostGIS and geospatial data handling using geometry types. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing spatial databases and queries to support our geospatial applications and analytics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain PostgreSQL databases with PostGIS extensions.
  • Develop and optimize complex spatial queries using geometry and geography types.
  • Implement spatial indexing and performance tuning for large geospatial datasets.
  • Collaborate with GIS analysts, data scientists, and backend developers to integrate spatial data into applications.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and scalability of spatial databases.
  • Create and maintain documentation for database schemas, procedures, and spatial workflows.
  • Support ETL processes involving spatial data from various sources (e.g., shapefiles, GeoJSON, WKT/WKB).

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong experience with PostgreSQL and PostGIS.
  • Proficiency in SQL, especially with spatial functions (ST_Contains, ST_Intersects, ST_Distance, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of geometry vs geography types and their use cases.
  • Experience with spatial indexing and query optimization.
  • Familiarity with GIS data formats and tools (e.g., QGIS, GDAL).
  • Knowledge of RESTful APIs and integration of spatial data into web services is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, GIS, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud-based spatial databases (e.g., AWS RDS with PostGIS).
  • Familiarity with Python or JavaScript for geospatial data processing.
  • Understanding of map projections and coordinate systems.
