Job Description: Cost Accountant

Department: Finance & Accounts

Reports to: CFO / Head of Finance

Role Purpose

The Cost Accountant will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cost accounting systems and practices across Vashi Integrated's industrial distribution and solar supply-chain operations. The role will ensure accurate cost allocation, working capital efficiency, compliance with statutory requirements, and provide actionable insights to management for pricing, profitability, and strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

1. Costing & Pricing

  • Develop, monitor, and maintain standard costing systems across product categories.
  • Analyze landed cost, distribution cost, logistics, warehousing, and financing costs.
  • Prepare pricing models for tenders, contracts, and rate agreements.

2. Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Prepare product-wise, customer-wise, and region-wise profitability analysis.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly MIS, variance analysis, and contribution margins.
  • Provide cost-based inputs for quarterly board reviews and business planning.

3. Working Capital Management

  • Track inventory carrying cost and recommend optimization measures.
  • Analyze receivables cost of funding and credit terms.
  • Support treasury in managing liquidity with focus on cost efficiency.

4. Statutory Compliance & Audit

  • Ensure compliance with Cost Audit (as per Companies Act, 2013 & CMA regulations, if applicable).
  • Support statutory audit, internal audit, and tax audit with costing-related information.
  • Maintain proper cost records in line with Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).

5. Business Partnering

  • Work closely with sales, supply chain, procurement, and project teams to provide costing insights.
  • Support in bid preparation, tender pricing, and cost-benefit analysis of new business opportunities.
  • Assist CFO in strategic decisions including make-vs-buy, outsourcing, and vendor negotiations.

Key Skills Required

  • Strong knowledge of Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), Ind-AS, GST, and Income Tax provisions related to costing.
  • Expertise in ERP (SAP S/4HANA preferred) and advanced Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling skills.
  • Ability to handle large datasets and prepare management dashboards.
  • Strong communication and business partnering abilities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional Qualification: CMA (Cost & Management Accountant) mandatory.
  • Experience: 3–7 years in cost accounting, preferably in industrial distribution, manufacturing, or EPC/solar sector.
  • Exposure to working capital-intensive businesses is a plus.

Deliverables & KPIs

  • Accurate and timely product costing reports.
  • Reduction in cost variances & improved gross margins.
  • Insights on working capital efficiency (inventory days, receivables days).
  • Cost compliance reports for audit & statutory requirements.
  • Value-added inputs to management decisions.
