Cosmetic Chemist

Key Responsibilities

• New Product Development (NPD)
• Research, design, and develop formulations for prescription medicines, cosmeceuticals, nutraceuticals, and dermocosmetics (cleansers, sunscreens, moisturizers, anti-acne, depigmentation, oral supplements).
• Work closely with dermatologists to translate clinical requirements into stable, safe, and effective formulations.
• Develop prototypes, conduct lab-scale trials, and optimize formulas for efficacy, stability, and sensorial profile.
• Testing & Validation
• Conduct compatibility, stability, and preservative efficacy studies as per ICH guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with dermatology-grade standards and regulatory requirements (DCGI, FDA, AYUSH, CDSCO where applicable).
• Coordinate with third-party labs for microbiology, safety, and efficacy testing.
• Scale-up & Manufacturing Support
• Transfer bench-scale formulations to pilot and commercial scale.
• Support contract manufacturing partners by providing technical documents (batch records, SOPs, product dossiers).
• Troubleshoot production issues and ensure batch-to-batch consistency.
• Documentation & Compliance
• Maintain detailed formulation records, lab notebooks, and technical data sheets.
• Prepare regulatory documentation required for product approval and certifications.
• Innovation & Research
• Stay updated with global skincare trends, new active ingredients, and delivery systems.
• Evaluate novel raw materials (peptides, botanicals, biotech actives) and vendor capabilities.
• Recommend improvements in formulations for efficacy, safety, and cost optimization.

Qualifications & Skills

• M.Pharm / B.Pharm / M.Sc (Cosmetic Science, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or related field).
• 2–6 years of hands-on experience in skincare/cosmetic/dermatology formulations.
• Strong understanding of actives (retinoids, clindamycin, adapalene, kojic acid, arbutin, AHAs, peptides, sunscreens, etc.).
• Familiarity with emulsions, gels, suspensions, serums, ointments, and controlled release formulations.
• Knowledge of regulatory and safety requirements for dermo-cosmetic and prescription categories.
• Excellent documentation and presentation skills.
• Innovative mindset with problem-solving abilities.
