Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled VoIP Software Engineer with deep expertise in Asterisk PBX to design, develop, and maintain our communication infrastructure. You will be responsible for building scalable telephony applications, integrating VoIP services with our existing software stack, and ensuring the high availability of our voice networks.

The ideal candidate bridges the gap between traditional telecommunications and modern backend engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Asterisk Development:
Design and implement complex dial plans (AEL or ) and develop custom modules using
AMI (Asterisk Manager Interface)
and
ARI (Asterisk REST Interface)
.

System Integration:
Integrate Asterisk with external databases (MySQL/PostgreSQL) and web services via FastAGI or RESTful APIs.

Infrastructure Management:
Deploy, configure, and tune Asterisk servers in Linux environments (CentOS/Debian/Ubuntu) for maximum performance and jitter reduction.

Protocol Expertise:
Troubleshoot and optimize
SIP, RTP, WebRTC
, and
IAX2
protocols.

Security:
Implement robust security measures, including Fail2Ban, firewalls, and TLS/SRTP encryption to protect against toll fraud and eavesdropping.

Monitoring:
Set up proactive monitoring for call quality (MOS scores), concurrent call limits, and system health.

Technical Requirements

Core Skill:
3+ years of hands-on experience with Asterisk PBX (Open Source).

Programming:
Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, or PHP) and familiarity with C (for module debugging).

Linux Mastery:
Strong Command Line interface (CLI) skills and experience with shell scripting.

Networking:
Deep understanding of the OSI model, particularly regarding NAT traversal and packet analysis using
Wireshark
or
sngrep
.

Database:
Experience with Realtime Architecture (Asterisk Realtime Architecture - ARA).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with
Kamailio
or
OpenSIPS
for load balancing and SIP proxying.

Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).

Knowledge of
FreePBX
or
Issabel GUIs
(though we prefer "under-the-hood" knowledge).

Soft Skills

Ability to document complex call flows and system architectures clearly.
