Job Description: Role provides mentoring and day-to-day leadership in the planning and strategy, architecture, deployment, and operation of database systems. The Database Manager must have a strong understanding of data structures, database systems and procedures and the range of analytical tools used to undertake a range of different types of statistical analyses. Assists in the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to data security and integrity. Assesses current and projected database performance and recommends changes and enhancements. Ensure best practices and standards are met and maintained in the development of new databases. Supervise installation, migration, and upgrade of databases. Maintain database disaster recovery procedures to ensure continuous availability and speedy recovery. Create and maintain standard procedures to enhance scalability and performance of existing database architectures. This position will require regular interfacing with development teams to integrate databases with other applications. Updates senior leadership on progress, issues, and pending decisions with regular status meetings. Participates in the development of short and long-term strategic initiatives in the Open Systems, Database, Storage and Cloud spaces. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or directly related year for year work experience 5 years of professional industry-relevant experience working on infrastructure teams in a corporate environment
Preferred Skills: Experience as a team lead, supervisor, and or manager Solid knowledge/experience with DB2, MS SQL, MongoDB, and Azure Database as a Service
Key Responsibilities: Manage day-to-day technical, operational, fiscal, and administrative activities of the respective areas of responsibility, ensuring compliance with company practices and procedures. Analyze business needs and recommend technical solutions that meet those needs Identify, drive, and report on performance metrics, service levels, system status and both planned and unplanned system outages. Identify and bring forth technology infrastructure and solutions that help move IT platforms forward. Maintain essential IT operations, including database platforms, security tools, applications, storage, private and public cloud. Continuously analyze current processes and technologies in use to identify areas of improvement. Train employees on software, troubleshooting, and provide technical support and escalation when needed. Assist in the development and execution of disaster recovery procedures, which includes proper backup and retention practices. Properly maintain accurate company IT assets through regular audits and automated processes where applicable.
