Role Description

Althion has a strong R&D pipeline including novel equipment for kidney dialysis, and kidney dialysis monitoring. This is a full-time, on-site role for a R&D Biomedical Research Engineer based in Hyderabad. The Biomedical Research Engineer will be responsible for developing and testing medical equipment as part of our strong R&D program. Day-to-day tasks include coordinating with clinical teams, and implementing design and development plans to meet regulatory and operational targets. The role emphasizes maintaining high standards in innovation, safety, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Strong knowledge of Biomedical Engineering and Clinical Engineering principles
• Collaborating with healthcare professionals to understand their needs and challenges Conducting research to develop new materials and technologies for medical use.
• Designing, testing, and implementing medical equipment and devices
• Ensuring compliance with medical device regulations and standards
• Managing projects and deadlines effectively
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product development
• Documenting design processes and technical specifications
• Identify alternate components based on design requirements & component specification/datasheet comparisons
• Conducting risk assessments and mitigating potential hazards
• Evaluating the safety and efficacy of medical equipment and devices
• Training clinicians and other personnel on how to use biomedical machines and equipment, safely and effectively.
• Writing reports and documents detailing protocols, policies, standards of use, maintenance, and repairs of biomedical equipment, machines, and software.
• Researching new materials, technologies, and engineering aspects of biological processes and systems.

Required Qualifications

• BTech/MTech/PhD in Biomedical engineering or equivalent
• 1 to 4 Years of experience in working with Hardware product development or manufacturing, preferably in the medical sector (not compulsory)
• Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems in medical or other equipment sectors
• Strong interest in understanding biological systems and medical processes
• Proficiency in design tools
• Experience or interest in medical device regulations and quality standards
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Ability to communicate technical information effectively
• Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
• Knowledge and/or interest in FDA and ISO regulations for medical devices
• Professional certification in biomedical engineering (CBET) is a plus
