Role Overview

We are seeking a technically driven Data Analyst to join our Data & Analytics Solutions team. This role requires strong hands-on capability in Microsoft's cloud data stack and the ability to work across the full data lifecycle — from ingestion and transformation to governance and analytics delivery.

You will contribute to solution design, architecture preparation, and technical delivery of Microsoft data estate projects, including Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Power BI, Microsoft Purview, and SQL Server. The position also involves supporting pre-sales technical activities, building proof-of-concepts, and implementing production-grade solutions in line with Microsoft best practices.

Key Technical Responsibilities

1. Data Pipeline & Integration Development

• Design, build, and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines in Azure Data Factory for ingesting structured and semi-structured data.
• Implement transformations using T-SQL, Azure Synapse SQL Pools, and Azure Data Lake Storage.
• Optimize query performance and manage partitioning strategies for large datasets.

2. Data Modelling & Storage

• Develop dimensional and relational data models to support analytics and reporting.
• Create schemas in Azure Synapse and SQL Server following normalization and star schema design principles.
• Manage indexing, statistics, and storage optimization to ensure performance efficiency.

3. Data Visualization & Analytics

• Build Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards with DAX for calculated measures.
• Implement row-level security (RLS) and data source optimization in Power BI.
• Develop reusable data models for self-service BI adoption.

4. Data Governance & Estate Management

• Catalog data assets and maintain lineage in Microsoft Purview.
• Define and enforce metadata standards, classification, and data access controls.
• Implement security policies, encryption, and access provisioning in accordance with compliance requirements.

5. Solution Design & Pre-Sales Technical Support

• Work with solution architects to prepare technical architecture diagrams and deployment plans.
• Build proof-of-concepts (POCs) to validate Microsoft data platform capabilities for clients.
• Provide technical input into proposals, including tool selection and architecture recommendations.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong T-SQL skills for data extraction, transformation, and performance tuning.
• Practical experience with Azure Data Factory for data integration.
• Hands-on with Power BI, including DAX, data modelling, and performance optimization.
• Understanding of Azure Synapse Analytics or Azure SQL Database.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Purview for data catalogging and governance.
• Knowledge of data architecture concepts — OLTP vs OLAP, star/snowflake schema, data partitioning.

Preferred Technical Skills

• Python scripting for automation and advanced transformations.
• Experience with Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2.
• Exposure to Azure DevOps or GitHub for CI/CD in data projects.
• Understanding of cloud networking, security models, and role-based access control (RBAC).

Core Competencies

• Ability to translate business requirements into technical architectures and data models.
• Strong problem-solving skills in a cloud data engineering context.
• Self-directed learning approach to keep pace with Microsoft's evolving data services.
• Comfortable working in hybrid environments with both on-premises SQL Server and Azure services.
• Build and deploy at least one production-grade data pipeline in Azure Data Factory.
• Deliver a fully functional Power BI dashboard using optimized data models.
• Implement data cataloging and lineage tracking for a project in Microsoft Purview.
• Contribute to at least one POC or architecture design for a client solution.
