Role Summary

Seeking an experienced Senior DBA to manage and optimize AWS RDS and Aurora environments. The role involves ensuring high availability, performance, security, and cost efficiency across multi-engine RDS deployments (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle).

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer and tune RDS/Aurora databases for performance, reliability, and security.
  • Manage backups, PITR, replication, and cross-region DR setups.
  • Automate provisioning, scaling, and patching using Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK.
  • Monitor and optimize using Performance Insights, CloudWatch, and custom dashboards.
  • Enforce encryption, IAM roles, and compliance standards (CIS, SOC2, HIPAA).
  • Collaborate with DevOps and application teams on schema design and CI/CD integration.
  • Drive cost optimization via rightsizing, reserved instances, and storage tuning.

Required Skills

  • Strong SQL expertise (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server).
  • Deep knowledge of AWS RDS, Aurora, and DMS.
  • Hands-on with performance tuning, replication, and failover.
  • Experience with Terraform, Python/Bash scripting, and CloudWatch monitoring.
  • Solid grasp of security, IAM, and encryption in AWS.

Nice to Have

  • AWS Certified Database – Specialty or Solutions Architect cert.
  • Experience with Aurora Serverless v2 and multi-region DR.
  • Familiarity with Datadog, Grafana, or Prometheus.
