Purpose of the Role:
As a Big Data QA Automation Engineer at American Express, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of our big data platforms and solutions. Your impact will be felt through designing, developing, and maintaining robust automation frameworks that validate complex data pipelines, large-scale distributed systems, and analytics platforms. By identifying defects early, improving test coverage, and implementing preventive measures, you will help us deliver trusted insights and data-driven products that empower our colleagues and customers.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement automated testing frameworks for big data applications and ETL pipelines.
- Build and maintain test scripts for validating data ingestion, transformation, and storage across distributed systems (Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Kafka, etc.).
- Partner with data engineers, developers, and business stakeholders to define test strategies and quality standards.
- Perform end-to-end testing of large datasets, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and integrity.
- Develop monitoring solutions to prevent and detect issues in production environments.
- Execute performance, scalability, and reliability testing for big data ecosystems.
- Identify opportunities to improve automation, optimize testing processes, and reduce manual intervention.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong programming skills in Java, Python, or Scala with a focus on test automation.
- Hands-on experience with big data technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Kafka, HBase, etc.).
- Proven experience in building automation frameworks for large-scale data systems.
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed computing concepts.
- Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and their big data services.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jenkins, Git, Docker, Kubernetes).
- Exposure to data validation tools and libraries (e.g., Great Expectations, Deequ).
- Experience in performance testing and benchmarking big data applications.
- Knowledge of QA methodologies, best practices, and agile software development processes.
