Role & responsibilities

EEG technicians are responsible for preparing patients, performing and monitoring electroencephalogram (EEG) tests to record brain activity, and ensuring patient safety and comfort. Their duties include placing electrodes on the patient's scalp, analyzing the data for abnormalities, performing maintenance on equipment, and maintaining accurate records for physicians. Patient preparation and care

  • Explain procedures: Inform patients about the test, answer their questions, and explain what to expect during the procedure.
  • Prepare patients: Position patients correctly and apply electrodes to their scalp.
  • Monitor patients: Continuously monitor patients for safety and comfort throughout the test.

Performing and monitoring tests

  • Conduct tests: Perform EEGs and other neurodiagnostic tests, which may include nerve conduction studies or evoked potential testing.
  • Operate equipment: Use specialized equipment to record the brain's electrical activity.
  • Analyze data: Analyze the recorded EEG data to identify any abnormalities and filter out any interference (artifact).
  • Report findings: Report any findings or concerns to a neurologist or other medical professional for interpretation and further action.

Equipment and administrative duties

  • Maintain equipment: Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot EEG machines and related equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Manage supplies: Keep an inventory of necessary supplies, such as electrodes, paste, and jelly.
  • Maintain records: Keep accurate and detailed records of test results and patient information.

Preferred candidate profile

Candidate must have Diploma OR Bachelor in Neurophysiology or Diploma in EEG Technician from a reputed Institute.
