About The Opportunity
A staffing partner serving enterprise IT infrastructure teams across banking, insurance, and government sectors is hiring an on-site Mainframe Systems Administrator in India. This role focuses on managing mission-critical z/OS platforms that power high-volume transaction processing, ensuring availability, security, and performance for production and disaster-recovery environments.

Mainframe Systems Administrator

Role & Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain z/OS production, DR and non-production systems to achieve SLA-driven availability and stability.
  • Perform system installs, maintenance and patching using SMP/E; manage system libraries and APAR/PTF deployments.
  • Monitor and tune system and workload performance (JES2/JES3, CICS, DB2); troubleshoot incidents and lead root-cause analysis.
  • Implement and enforce RACF security controls: user/profile management, access reviews, and security incidents remediation.
  • Manage backup, restore and storage policies using DFSMShsm; execute DR tests and recovery procedures.
  • Automate routine tasks and runbooks using REXX/CLIST/USS, coordinate changes with middleware, application and operations teams during deployments and upgrades.

Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have

  • Proven hands-on experience administering IBM z/OS-based mainframe environments in production.
  • Strong operational expertise in JCL, CICS and DB2 administration and troubleshooting.
  • Practical knowledge of RACF security administration and compliance controls.
  • Experience with SMP/E for PTF/APAR application and system patching.
  • Hands-on use of TSO/ISPF and DFSMShsm for storage management and backups.
  • Ability to automate operational tasks (REXX/CLIST/Unix System Services) and maintain clear runbooks and run schedules.
  • On-site availability in India and experience working in 24x7 production support models; familiarity with incident and change-management processes.

Preferred

  • Experience with IBM MQ, CA7 or BMC Control-M scheduling and monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with enterprise monitoring suites (BMC MainView, CA SYSVIEW) and performance tuning tools.
  • Prior exposure to modernization projects: z/OS upgrades, workload automation, or migration to hybrid infra.
