The Mapping Strategy team optimizes Akamai's global traffic and capacity across products and regions to ensure maximum efficiency, resilience, and performance. We ensure mapping system reliability and observability, drive safe changes, refine key metrics, automate measurements, and lead complex investigations.

As a Performance Engineer, you will work on some of the world's most testing planetary-scale computing problems. You'll continuously learn and leverage new software and technology to apply in performing complex data analysis supporting key decisions. This role provides exposure cross-functionally, and you'll collaborate with technical contributors across Akamai.

As a Performance Engineer II, you will be responsible for:

• Collaborating cross-functionally to enhance the performance, availability, reliability, and efficiency of Akamai's content delivery platform through data-driven operational and architectural decisions.
• Responding to escalations for capacity impact evaluation. Define, manage, and track SLIs and SLOs for service performance and availability.
• Designing strategies for allocating Akamai's global capacity across products to balance efficiency, resilience, and customer experience.
• Engineering global traffic policies to continuously improve latency, availability, and resource utilization.
• Automating operational tasks and build frameworks that eliminate toil and reduce manual and repetitive work.
• Partnering with engineering and SRE teams to design scalable, resilient systems and troubleshoot performance issues across services, networks, and regions.
• Implementing and optimizing monitoring, alerting, logging, and analytics to proactively detect, mitigate, and prevent issues.
• Leading and partnering on incident response to ensure prompt, high-quality resolution and lasting improvements.

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related engineering field.
• Have proficiency with Python, Go, Bash, or similar scripting languages. Have good Linux CLI/shell fluency.
• Be proficient in developing SQL queries for trend analysis, troubleshooting, and reporting.
• Have experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or a related role.
• Have good Linux/Unix internals knowledge; expertise with the network protocol stack, distributed systems, and systems design.
• Be experienced with monitoring, alerting, and logging platforms (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus).
