Job Summary

The Engineering Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and uninterrupted operations of utility and engineering systems across BE Stellar R&D Park. This includes oversight of critical systems such as boilers, chillers, HVAC, compressed air, water systems, and waste treatment facilities. The role plays a vital part in maintaining compliance with GMP and safety standards while leading a team to execute maintenance activities efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

1. Plant Operations & Maintenance

• Supervise preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance for all plant equipment and systems.
• Conduct regular plant rounds to ensure optimal functioning of rotary and static equipment.
• Identify and resolve equipment abnormalities, parameter deviations, and potential safety hazards.
• Log and monitor process parameters and ensure appropriate documentation.

2. Utility & Facility Management

• Oversee operations of chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, boilers, generators, HVAC systems, water systems (WFI, process water, RO, etc.), and effluent treatment plants.
• Ensure uninterrupted utility supply for production and research operations.

3. Compliance & Documentation

• Ensure adherence to cGMP, safety, and environmental regulations across all maintenance activities.
• Maintain comprehensive records of inspections, maintenance, equipment logs, permits, and audits.
• Support validation, qualification, and documentation during equipment commissioning and start-up.

4. Equipment & Asset Management

• Maintain and optimize lubrication, chemical dosing, and cleaning procedures.
• Execute and document proper shutdowns/start-ups per SOPs.
• Ensure proper isolation and safety procedures before maintenance (lockout/tagout, purging, etc.).

5. Team Leadership

• Lead, train, and mentor the maintenance and utility operations team.
• Delegate tasks effectively, ensuring timely and high-quality execution.
• Foster a safety-first culture within the team.

6. Vendor & Contractor Coordination

• Coordinate with external vendors for equipment procurement, servicing, AMC, and breakdown response.
• Monitor service levels and ensure adherence to contracts and performance standards.

Major Tasks

• Regularly monitor process parameters and take immediate corrective action in case of deviations.
• Check for contamination in storm water drains and escalate to ETP and shift in-charge as needed.
• Perform shutdown/start-up checks and emergency operations per instructions and SOPs.
• Assist in chemical and utility sample collection and coordination with quality functions.

Technical / Functional Expertise

• In-depth working knowledge of:

• Boilers, chillers, cooling towers, compressors, generators, HVAC, water systems (RO, WFI), EMS/BMS.

• Cleanroom environmental conditions and warehouse air handling requirements.

• Wastewater and bio-waste treatment systems.

• Familiarity with:

• CGMP, safety standards, and regulatory frameworks.

• Equipment qualification, commissioning, and validation documentation.
• Environment, health & safety (EHS) regulations and statutory compliance (especially boiler operations).

Key Requirements

Experience

• Minimum 7 years in plant utilities and facility maintenance, preferably in pharmaceutical / vaccine / formulation manufacturing environments.

Educational Qualifications

• Diploma or B.Tech in Mechanical, Electrical, or Instrumentation Engineering.

Skills

• Strong hands-on experience in operation and troubleshooting of utility systems.
• Proficient in engineering documentation, audit readiness, and regulatory compliance.
• Leadership capability to manage teams and external vendors.
