Responsibilities

  • Plan, build, and maintain WordPress plugins end-to-end (settings pages, admin screens, shortcodes/blocks, widgets, Media Library tweaks).
  • Use core actions/filters, enqueue scripts/styles, and follow WP coding standards.
  • Ensure compatibility across common themes/plugins and current WordPress/PHP versions.
  • Create clear, accessible admin UIs (tabs, forms, list tables, filters, bulk actions, notices).
  • Add contextual help/tooltips and capability-based visibility for settings and actions.
  • Keep interfaces lightweight, responsive, and easy to understand.
  • Build and consume REST API endpoints (JSON), handle auth tokens, timeouts, and retries.
  • Integrate third-party services as needed (e.g., licensing, payments, content or utility APIs) with clean error handling.
  • Version endpoints and maintain backward compatibility.
  • Apply best practices: nonces, capability checks, sanitize/escape all inputs/outputs, prevent XSS/CSRF/SQLi.
  • Secure file handling and sensitive option storage; add basic audit/activity logs.
  • Write readable, modular code with comments and small unit/integration tests where feasible.
  • Maintain semantic versioning, changelogs, and upgrade routines/migrations.
  • Use Git (branches/PRs), basic CI, and staged rollouts; document features and setup steps.
  • Triage and fix bugs, improve performance, and address compatibility issues promptly.
  • Monitor PHP/WP deprecations and keep plugins current.

Preferred Candidate Profile

  • Experience: 56+ years building custom WordPress plugins in production (agency/product/SaaS); shipped 2-3 plugins end-to-end
  • Core WP Skills: Actions/filters, Options API, admin pages, AJAX, Media Library customizations, enqueueing assets, shortcodes/blocks.
  • PHP & MySQL: Strong OOP PHP (7.4/8.x), $wpdb with prepared statements, simple migrations, indexing, and performance awareness.
  • JavaScript: ES6 and jQuery for admin UIs (forms, list tables, modals, progress, toasts); confident with fetch/AJAX and JSON handling.
  • REST APIs: Comfortable building and consuming endpoints; auth tokens, timeouts, retries, and friendly error states.
  • Security: Nonces, capability checks, sanitize/escape, secure file handling; prevents XSS/CSRF/SQLi by habit.
  • Performance & Scale: Pagination, transients/object cache, background jobs (Action Scheduler/WP-Cron), and awareness of memory/time limits.
  • Release Hygiene: Git (branches/PRs), semantic versioning, changelogs, upgrade routines, backward compatibility mindset.
  • Quality Mindset: Readable code, useful comments, light unit/integration tests where practical; debug/logs for supportability.
  • Communication: Clear written English for docs/PRs; concise updates; comfortable in async, remote setup.
  • Work Style: Ships in small increments, proactive about edge cases, ownership over features from spec release.
  • Nice to Have: WooCommerce, ACF, Avada/Fusion hooks; Razorpay/Stripe (orders, webhooks); OpenAI API basics; Composer/PSR-4; WP-CLI; basic CI (GitHub Actions).
  • Location/Hours: Remote in India; able to overlap a bit with late-afternoon/evening IST for team syncs.
  • Education: Degree optional, portfolio/code samples and prior plugin work matter more.
