The Rice Quality Manager is responsible for ensuring the quality standards of rice throughout the procurement, processing, storage, polishing, sorting, packing, and dispatch stages. The role includes monitoring grain quality parameters, maintaining quality systems, managing laboratory testing, and coordinating with suppliers, production teams, and customers to ensure consistent product quality.

Quality Control & Assurance
  • Implement and monitor quality standards for raw, semi-processed, and finished rice.
  • Check rice parameters: grain length, moisture, purity, color, broken %, foreign matter, aroma.
  • Supervise grading, polishing, sorting, and packing operations.
  • Approve final batches before dispatch as per contract & market standards.
Laboratory & Testing Management
  • Oversee routine lab testing of rice quality.
  • Ensure calibration and proper functioning of lab equipment.
  • Maintain accurate reporting and documentation of test results.
Supplier & Procurement Coordination
  • Inspect incoming rice from suppliers and traders.
  • Support procurement in supplier evaluation and rejection of substandard material.
  • Work to improve sourcing quality.
Process Improvement & Compliance
  • Implement continuous improvement in milling, sorting, and grading.
  • Ensure compliance with FSSAI, ISO, HACCP, BRC, and export quality standards.
  • Participate in internal and external certification audits.
  • Handle customer complaints and conduct root-cause analysis.
Team Leadership & Reporting
  • Train mill operators, sorting staff, and lab technicians.
  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly quality reports for management.

Requirements

Educational Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
Experience & Skills
  • 7–10 years of experience in rice milling or rice export industry.
  • Hands-on experience with color sorters (Satake/Buhler), graders, and polishers.
  • Strong knowledge of Basmati / Non-Basmati rice grades and processing standards.
  • Understanding of milling parameters, moisture control, and storage practices.
  • Ability to identify defects and troubleshoot production issues.
  • Good communication & team management.
  • KPIs: batch rejection rate, complaint rate, yield efficiency, consistency.
