Senior Backend Engineer

We are looking for a Senior Backend Developer with strong Healthcare EDI experience,
especially in X12 270/271 eligibility transactions, to lead the development of our eligibility
verification workflows. You will work on pre-defined architectural specs, building scalable
Azure PaaS solutions and integrating with Stedi's Healthcare API and SFTP
systems for real-time and batch eligibility checks.

Key Responsibilities
● Develop end-to-end eligibility verification workflows (270/271) as per solution
architecture.
● Build Azure Functions (HTTP, Timer, Durable) for request creation, response
processing, and orchestration.
● Implement Service Bus handlers for batch eligibility operations with retry & DLQ
handling.
● Develop T-SQL stored procedures for member lookup, eligibility caching, and
performance optimization.
● Integrate with Stedi Healthcare API (real-time + batch).
● Build secure SFTP file orchestration workflows using
● Implement error handling, validation, retry logic, and monitoring pipelines.
● Write unit tests, integration tests, and technical documentation.

● Collaborate with architects, DevOps, and QA teams to ensure successful deployment.

Required Skills
1. Healthcare EDI (Mandatory)
● 3+ years hands-on with X12 EDI 270/271 eligibility transactions.
● Deep understanding of eligibility request/response patterns, benefit structures & payer
nuances.
● Experience handling:
○ AAA Reject Codes
○ EDI validation
○ Error handling & retry logic
● Familiarity with 834 enrollment files and member demographic matching.
● Ability to read and interpret 999 / TA1 acknowledgements.

2. Azure Development (Mandatory)
5+ years professional development experience
2+ years building production systems using Azure PaaS:
● Azure Functions (HTTP, Timer, Durable)
● Azure Service Bus (queues, topics, DLQ)
● Azure SQL (T-SQL, stored procedures, query optimization)
● Azure Storage (Blob, Table)
● Key Vault, Managed Identities

● Application Insights for telemetry & logging

3. Programming Skills
● C# (.NET 8+) — Primary language
● T-SQL — advanced queries & tuning
● Python — data parsing and transformation (nice to have)
● PowerShell/Bash — DevOps automation

4. Integration & API Development
● REST API development & integrations
● JSON transformation & schema validation
● SFTP workflows (polling, secure transfers, integrity checks)
● Webhook and asynchronous event models

5. HIPAA Compliance (Mandatory)
● Strong understanding of PHI handling, encryption, access control & audit requirements
● Experience implementing HIPAA-compliant cloud systems
● Security-first development mindset

Desired Skills
● Bicep / ARM templates (IaC)
● Azure DevOps / GitHub Actions CI/CD
● Redis Cache (rate limiting, session management)
