KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Management of Radiation Therapy and Equipments:

  1. To supervise, coordinate and participate in a variety of duties involved in the administration of radiation therapy to patients; to schedule patients, process treatment forms and plan utilization of radiation therapy equipment, supplies and materials for the department.
  2. To deliver accurately the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy with minimal supervision.
  3. To check prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient identification.
  4. To explain procedure to patient, means of communication during treatment and procedure to follow if emergency arises during treatment.
  5. To reinforce Radiation Oncologist's advice to patient regarding reactions to treatment and their care.
  6. To prepare room and equipment for patient according to prescription regarding immobilization devices, field size, treatment distance, lead protection devices, etc.
  7. To transfer patient safely to treatment couch, giving special care to catheters, intravenous drips, etc.
  8. To check daily treatment time and deliver prescribed dose.
  9. To maintain visual and audible communication with the patient during treatment.
  10. To maintain patient markings. To observe patient for unusual reactions and events and report accurate information to the nursing staff and/or Radiation Oncologist.
  11. To assist in tumor localization procedures, preparation of immobilization devices, etc.
  12. To perform mold room duties.

  13. Preparing immobilizing device for the area to be treated to avoid inadvertent movement of patient during planning as well as treatment.

  14. Operating Simulator by setting various controls to get appropriate image.

  15. Performing patient setup on conventional CT / PET and other machines as required.

  16. Constructing and fitting accessory devices that shape, modify and direct the administered radiation to destroy cancerous tissue.

  17. Verifying the accuracy of patient positioning using imaging devices.

  18. Perform quality assurance works under super vision of medical physicist.

  19. Keeping a record of procedures performed on the patient.

  20. Preparing patients for planning by explaining the procedure and position the patient so that parts of the body can be appropriately radio graphed.

  21. All important aspects, mistakes & mishaps should be immediately reported to HOD.

  22. To participate in academic activities of the department & organization.

  23. To be part of the Quality Improvement Initiative & protocols of the organization.

Radiation Safety:

  1. To observe radiation safety measures for patient and personnel.
  2. To assist in dosimetry procedures (i.e. Prescription calculations).

Information Management:

  1. To obtain weekly port films and present such at chart rounds for review by Radiation Oncology staff.
  2. To perform and document daily accelerator warm-up and QA procedures.
  3. To maintain records of daily treatment
  4. To secure x-ray and lab reports as needed.

Supervisory function:

  1. To maintain supplies.

  2. To coordinate with departmental personnel to solve problems concerning patient care, departmental policy, treatment procedures and equipment.

  3. To compile data and prepare routine statistical reports.

  4. To assist in the orientation of employees and students as requested by management.

  5. To prepare duty rota of technicians.
