Key Responsibilities1. Equipment Preparation and Maintenance

  • Set up, calibrate, and test anesthesia machines and monitors.
  • Prepare ventilators, suction devices, infusion pumps, and airway management equipment.
  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain anesthesia tools and supplies.
  • Ensure all equipment is functioning properly and ready before surgery.

2. Support During Anesthesia Procedures

  • Assist anesthesiologists in administering anesthesia.
  • Hand over syringes, airway devices, and medications when required.
  • Monitor and replace gas cylinders and other consumables.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues during procedures.

3. Patient Preparation

  • Prepare patients for anesthesia under supervision.
  • Assist in positioning patients safely on the operating table.
  • Attach monitoring devices (ECG, pulse oximeter, BP cuff).
  • Help with IV line preparation and fluid setup.

4. Inventory & Supply Management

  • Maintain adequate stock of anesthesia drugs, accessories, and disposables.
  • Track usage and expiration dates of medications and sterile products.
  • Reorder supplies and maintain organized stock areas.

5. Documentation and Compliance

  • Record equipment checks, maintenance logs, and supply usage.
  • Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control, and sterilization standards.
  • Ensure compliance with anesthesia and operating room regulations.

Skills Required

  • Strong understanding of anesthesia equipment and pharmacology basics
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to remain calm in high-pressure situations
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Technical troubleshooting ability
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques and infection control

Qualifications

Education:

  • Diploma or certification in Anesthesia Technology
  • B.Sc. in Anesthesia Technology (preferred in many hospitals)

Experience:

  • 0–2 years for entry-level roles
  • More experience required for senior or specialized positions

Certifications: (varies by region)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (optional but helpful)

Work Environment

  • Operating rooms

  • Intensive Care Units (ICU)
  • Procedure rooms (endoscopy, labor room, cardiac catheterization labs)
