Key Responsibilities1. Pre-operative Duties

  • Prepare the operation theatre before each surgery — ensure cleanliness, sterilization, and readiness of instruments and equipment.

  • Arrange surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and materials as per the surgeon's requirements.

  • Check the functioning of OT equipment (e.g., anesthesia machine, suction apparatus, monitors).

  • Assist in the positioning and preparation of patients for surgery.

2. Intra-operative Assistance

  • Assist surgeons and nurses during operations by passing instruments and supplies.

  • Maintain a sterile field and follow strict aseptic techniques.

  • Handle specimens correctly and ensure proper labeling and dispatch to the lab.

  • Monitor and report any equipment malfunctions or breaks in sterility immediately.

3. Post-operative Duties

  • Clean and disinfect the OT and all equipment after each surgery.

  • Ensure instruments are sent for sterilization and restocked for the next procedure.

  • Assist in the transfer of patients to recovery or ICU as needed.

  • Maintain accurate records of surgeries, instruments, and consumables used.

4. Administrative & Safety Responsibilities

  • Maintain inventory of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.

  • Follow infection control, safety, and biomedical waste disposal protocols.

  • Participate in emergency preparedness drills and OT audits.

  • Report to OT In-charge and coordinate with nursing and surgical teams.
