Role & responsibilities

1. Instrumentation Design & Selection

  • Review and interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Selection and sizing of field instruments (flow, level, pressure, temperature, analytical sensors).
  • Prepare instrument datasheets, IO lists, cable schedules, and hook-up drawings.
  • Design instrumentation control panels (local and remote).

2. PLC/SCADA/DCS Integration

  • PLC programming and SCADA configuration for process automation.
  • Integrate instruments with control systems (e.g., SCADA/DCS).
  • Ensure compatibility and communication between devices (Modbus, Profibus, HART, Ethernet).

3. Installation & Commissioning

  • Supervise installation of instruments, junction boxes, and cabling.
  • Perform loop checking, instrument calibration, and functional testing.
  • Support site commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and SAT (Site Acceptance Test).

4. Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Lead preventive and breakdown maintenance activities for instrumentation systems.
  • Diagnose faults in field devices and control systems.
  • Ensure minimal downtime and reliable operation of treatment processes.

5. Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with environmental and safety standards (CPCB, ISO, ATEX).
  • Prepare documentation such as calibration reports, maintenance logs, and test reports.
  • Support audits and inspections by regulatory bodies.

6. Team Leadership & Coordination

  • Guide junior engineers and technicians in routine activities.
  • Coordinate with process, electrical, mechanical, and civil teams.
  • Liaise with OEMs and vendors for technical discussions and procurement.

7. Project Management

  • Participate in instrumentation scope for new projects, upgrades, and retrofits.
  • Prepare cost estimates, BOQ, and technical specifications.
  • Manage timelines, quality, and budget of instrumentation deliverables.
