CTVS PICU Nurse

Role & responsibilities :

Principal Accountabilities

(A) Operational

• Responsible for total patient care, including medication, orders and treatments.
• Administer first-aid treatment and life-support care to sick or injured patient.
• Assess nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures.
• Observe, record, and report to physician the patient's condition or injury, the treatment provided, and reactions to drugs and treatment.
• Perform emergency diagnostic and treatment procedures, such as suction, Airway management and heart monitoring etc.
• Able to perform the techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation accurately and effectively.
• Assisting, maintaining, monitoring various cardiac emergency procedures such as chest tube insertion, CVP line insertion, Swanz Ganz catheter insertion etc.

Administer drugs, orally or by injection, and perform intravenous procedures under Physicians direction.

• Coordinate work with other emergency medical team members when required.
• Coordinate with treatment center personnel to obtain patients' vital statistics and medical history, to determine the circumstances of the emergency, and to administer emergency treatment.
• To plan & organize the instruments and consumables required for various procedures.
• To maintain strict aseptic technique during the surgical procedures.

. To handle all the pediatric cardiac emergencies confidently.

• To participate in all the unit and in-service education.
• Applying splints to limbs, dressing wounds, administering pain relief and reading monitoring equipment.
• Implementation of operations especially as per the approved standards under supervision of the Consultant PICU / Head - Nursing.
• Ensures and guides optimum utilization of physical facilities, qualitative and economic use of general supplies
• Infection control, Health care waste management, awareness of patients rights & safety issues etc
• Participates in Hospital Quality Improvement Programme

• .Compliance to Nursing SOP & Nursing Protocols
• Timely and correct documentation
• , Provide documentation of assessment & nursing interventions by completing all necessary follow up and nursing chart forms.
• Provide life support and reduce mortality for patients at the hospital and during transport to definite care setting.
• Maintain strict infection control measures.
• To attended at least 80% training classes
• Provide a catalyst for absolute professionalism, integrity, confidentiality and competency with patients, their families, the public, other agencies, coworkers, and management at all times.
• Can confidently assist or circulate for all major & minor surgeries.
