Role Overview

As the Principal Web Developer, you will be a key leader in setting the technical vision and best practices for all web development. This role is a perfect fit for a seasoned professional with a strong background in WordPress, technical leadership, and a passion for building high-performance, scalable web solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Leadership: Set the technical vision, establish best practices, and mentor a team of experienced developers. Oversee complex migrations to WordPress.
  • Architecture & Development: Architect and implement scalable, secure WordPress solutions, including custom themes, plugins, and integrations. Design advanced templating systems and ensure robust content governance.
  • Performance Optimization: Lead site optimization efforts to meet and exceed Core Web Vitals. Implement advanced caching strategies, CDN integration, and database optimization.
  • Process & Workflow Automation: Set up and document efficient processes for page creation and updates. Integrate CI/CD pipelines and version control best practices.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure best-in-class WordPress security through hardening, monitoring, and regular audits. Maintain compliance with accessibility (WCAG) and privacy standards.
  • SEO & Analytics: Architect and oversee the implementation of advanced technical SEO, schema, and analytics integrations.
  • Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary technical point of contact for web initiatives, communicating technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.

Required Skills & Experience

Must-Have Skills:

  • WordPress
  • Team Handling, Team Leading, or Team Management
  • PHP or JavaScript

Technical Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of professional WordPress development experience, including leading large-scale projects and teams.
  • Demonstrable experience with complex migrations, performance optimization, and workflow automation.
  • Proven track record of architecting high-traffic, high-performance WordPress sites on managed hosting platforms like Pressable, WP Engine, or Kinsta.
  • Expert-level proficiency in PHP (OOP), MySQL, JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3/Sass.
  • Deep understanding of WordPress core, hooks, APIs, custom post types, and plugin architecture.
  • Advanced experience with server configuration (NGINX, Apache), WP-CLI, and Git.
  • Strong knowledge of caching, CDN, and database optimization for WordPress.
  • Advanced implementation skills for technical SEO, schema markup, redirects, and sitemaps.
  • Hands-on experience with SEO tools (Yoast, Rank Math) and analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Tag Manager).
  • Expertise in WordPress security best practices, hardening, and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and privacy regulations.

Preferred Skills (Nice to Have):

  • Familiarity with modern front-end frameworks like React or Vue.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and workflow automation.
  • Certifications related to WordPress, PHP, JavaScript, or cloud architecture.
