**Job Title:** Pathology Lab Receptionist

**Department:** Pathology / Laboratory

**Reports to:** Lab Manager / Supervisor

**Job Type:** Full-Time / Part-Time / Shift-based


**Job Summary:**

The Pathology Lab Receptionist serves as the first point of contact for patients and visitors at a diagnostic or pathology lab. They are responsible for managing front-desk operations including patient registration, appointment scheduling, billing assistance, and coordination between patients and lab staff to ensure efficient workflow and a high standard of customer service.


Key Responsibilities:**

* Greet patients and visitors warmly and professionally

* Register patients, verify personal and insurance information

* Schedule appointments for sample collection or consultations

* Handle incoming phone calls and respond to queries

* Maintain patient records and ensure data entry accuracy

* Coordinate with lab technicians and pathologists

* Collect payments and issue receipts/invoices

* Prepare daily reports of patient visits and transactions

* Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming reception area

* Ensure confidentiality of patient information (HIPAA compliance or local privacy laws)


**Skills and Qualifications:**

* High School Diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's preferred in some settings)

* Prior experience in a medical/laboratory receptionist role is a plus

* Good communication and interpersonal skills

* Basic knowledge of medical terminology (especially in pathology)

* Computer literacy (MS Office, medical software like LIS or HIS)

* Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure

* Detail-oriented and customer-focused

* Understanding of billing and insurance processes is a plus


Typical Working Hours:**

* 8 to 10-hour shifts

* May include weekends or holidays depending on lab hours


**Work Environment:**

* Clinical / medical lab setting

* Requires prolonged periods at a desk or computer

* Interaction with patients, lab personnel, and medical staff daily
