Job Title: Electrical Design Engineer Medium Voltage (MV) Switchgear

Job Overview:

The Electrical Design Engineer for Medium Voltage Switchgear is responsible for designing and developing MV switchgear systems and components, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client specifications. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize designs for reliability, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Switchgear System Design

  2. Develop detailed electrical designs for MV switchgear systems, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings.

  3. Specify and select components such as circuit breakers, transformers, relays, busbars, and protection devices based on project requirements.

  4. Design protection and control schemes for switchgear, including protection relays, metering, and control circuits.

  5. Technical Documentation

  6. Prepare technical documentation including design specifications, bills of materials (BOM), Schematic Diagram.

  7. Production Document Preparation

  8. Prepare the wiring schedule Labels , as per the Factory requirement meeting the Standards.

  9. Identify opportunities for design improvements and cost optimization without compromising on quality or safety.

  10. Project Coordination and Support

  11. Work closely with project managers, manufacturing teams, and procurement to ensure designs align with project schedules and budgets.

  12. Provide technical support during the manufacturing and installation phases, assisting in troubleshooting and resolving design-related issues.

  13. Compliance and Standards

  14. Ensure all designs adhere to industry standards and client-specific requirements, including IEC, ANSI, and relevant local standards.

  15. Client Interaction and Support

  16. Participate in client meetings to understand requirements, present design concepts, and address technical queries.

  17. Provide engineering support for client inquiries, clarifying design details and ensuring alignment with client expectations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical design, specifically with MV switchgear.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software, such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, Microstation or equivalent.
  • Strong understanding of MV switchgear components, power systems, and protection/control schemes.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Detail-oriented with a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, including power distribution, load calculations, and protection systems.
  • Ability to perform complex calculations related to electrical systems, such as fault analysis, thermal management, and energy efficiency.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize designs.
  • Knowledge of standards like IEC, IEEE, and ANSI for MV switchgear and related electrical equipment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
