Position Summary

We are seeking a hands-on and innovative Research Specialist with deep expertise in cancer biology and 3D organoid systems, ideally with exposure to immune-oncology co-culture or drug screening. The candidate will lead efforts to establish patient-derived tumor organoids and immune-competent co-culture models, forming the biological foundation of Katamarans Immuno-AI discovery platform. This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of wet-lab biology, AI, and translational medicine within a highly collaborative biotech environment.

Educational Background

PhD in Cancer Biology, Cell & Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related fields. Postdoctoral or early-industry experience (05 years) preferred.

Core Skills

  1. Organoid / Tumoroid Development

  2. Experience establishing and maintaining 3D human or murine organoid/tumoroid cultures.

    • Familiarity with extracellular matrices (Matrigel, PEG hydrogels, ECM mimetics).

    • Skilled in media optimization, passaging, cryopreservation, and QC of 3D cultures.

  3. Immuno-Oncology & Co-Culture Systems

  4. Experience with immune cell isolation (PBMCs, TILs, CAR-T) and co-culture with tumor models.

    • Understanding of immune activation assays (cytokine profiling, flow cytometry, IF/IHC markers).

  5. Drug Screening & Molecular Profiling

  6. Designing and executing high-throughput drug or biologic screening assays in 3D models.

    • Experience with endpoint assays (cell viability, Caspase-3, Ki-67, multiplex imaging).

    • Exposure to molecular readouts such as qPCR, RNAseq, or single-cell sequencing.

    • Familiarity with microfluidics-based lab-on-chip (LOC) systems for automated, miniaturized drug screening assays.

    • Understanding of integrating LOC systems with 3D cultures for dynamic drug perfusion and real-time imaging analysis.

  7. Data & Collaboration

  8. Comfort working with computational and AI teams to translate biological data into machine-learning models.

    • Strong documentation and presentation skills; experience preparing publications or grants.

Work Responsibilities

  • Establish and expand patient-derived organoid and tumoroid models from clinical samples in collaboration with partner hospitals.

    • Develop and standardize immunetumor co-culture systems to assess T-cell engager and kinase inhibitor efficacy.

    • Design, execute, and analyze 3D drug screening assays integrated with Katamarans AI and imaging platforms.

    • Integrate microfluidics-based lab-on-chip systems with 3D organoid platforms to develop scalable, high-throughput drug screening workflows.

    • Collaborate with the automation and AI teams to standardize LOC-driven experimental pipelines for consistent data generation.

    • Author experimental protocols, internal reports, and manuscripts; represent Katamaran at conferences and workshops.

Preferred Experience

  • Previous work in oncology translational labs, pharma/biotech, or organoid platforms.

    • Experience with CRISPR, iPSC, or advanced 3D culture technologies is advantageous.

    • Demonstrated creativity, independence, and scientific curiosity.
