About the Opportunity

A leading healthcare provider in the specialty eye-care sector operating advanced ophthalmology clinics and surgical centres across India. We deliver high-quality cataract and anterior-segment care using modern diagnostics and fully equipped operating theatres to improve visual outcomes for patients.

Primary job title: Consultant Ophthalmologist (Phaco/Cataract Surgeon) — On-site, India

Role & Responsibilities

• Perform safe, high-quality phacoemulsification cataract surgeries and intraocular lens implantations as primary surgeon, achieving excellent visual outcomes and low complication rates.
• Assess pre-operative patients: comprehensive slit-lamp exam, biometry (IOL calculation), OCT review, and create individualized surgical plans (including toric/multifocal IOL selection).
• Provide timely post-operative care: monitor recovery, manage complications, perform YAG capsulotomy when indicated, and ensure accurate clinical documentation.
• Maintain operating theatre standards: enforce surgical safety checklists, instrument sterilization protocols, and participate in quality-control and infection-prevention activities.
• Collaborate with optometrists, OT staff, and administrative teams to optimise patient flow, surgical scheduling, and overall patient experience.
• Mentor junior clinicians and participate in clinical audits, outcome monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives to raise surgical quality.

Skills & Qualifications
Must-Have

• MBBS with MS/DO/DNB in Ophthalmology or equivalent recognised qualification.
• Registered with the relevant Medical/State Medical Council in India.
• Proven track record performing phacoemulsification cataract surgery as primary surgeon with consistent clinical outcomes.
• Proficiency in slit-lamp biomicroscopy, biometry (IOLMaster/optical/ultrasound), and OCT interpretation.
• Ability to manage pre- and post-operative care, complications, and perform YAG capsulotomy.
• Comfortable working on-site with flexible clinic and theatre schedules in an Indian clinical setting.

Preferred

• Fellowship or focused training in cataract/refractive or anterior-segment surgery.
• Experience with femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) and premium IOL implantations (toric/multifocal).
• Experience in clinical teaching, audits, or leadership of surgical services.
