The Institution seeks candidates with experience in innovative methods in epidemiology, biostatistics, health policy, or a related field, in particular the design and analysis of etiologic and intervention studies. The candidate will work with cross disciplinary teams of scientists and clinicians.
The College is generating fundamental and transformative knowledge to improve public health and health equity. Of particular interest are candidates who bring expertise in novel study design and risk assessment methodologies applied to human population research. The individual will lead a program of research demonstrated by independent research funding, publication of manuscripts and leadership at local, national, and international research conferences dependent on rank.
For senior appointments, it is expected that faculty will take on a leadership role in expanding the teaching, research, and service missions of the College. They will also mentor junior faculty and graduate students and serve on internal and external committees.

Overview:

Meharry Medical College invites applications for an established, dynamic, and motivated individual to serve as a tenure-track associate professor within the School of Global Health. The ideal candidate will be an experienced scholar with a strong record of research, teaching, and service in global health or a closely related field. Areas of expertise may include health disparities, global health policy, health systems, climate change, epidemiology, public health, or the social and political determinants of health. 

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the School's mission through high-quality research, teaching, and service. Responsibilities include teaching core and elective courses, mentoring graduate students and junior faculty, and participating in internal and external committees.

Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to advancing global health scholarship and leadership in building interdisciplinary collaborations that support the teaching, research, and service priorities of the School of Global Health.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proven ability to teach (online and face-to-face) in the School of Global Health graduate degree programs.

  • Serving on dissertation committees, as needed, for PhD candidates.

  • Experience mentoring graduate students, postdocs, or junior faculty in research, career development, or global fieldwork.

  • Represent the School of Global Health at institutional (departmental, school, and college) meetings, professional conferences, and community events as required.

  • Collaborate with other departments and academic units to promote interdisciplinary research and educational initiatives.

  • Stay abreast of developments and trends in the fields of public health, health systems, infectious diseases, health disparities, climate and planetary health, or political determinants of health through continuous professional development and networking.

  • History of securing external research funding, such as: federal grants, foundation support, or international research contracts.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have completed a PhD, DrPH, or equivalent doctoral degree in global health or a closely related field, and have demonstrated excellence in funded research, teaching, service, and scholarly publication in accordance with their career stage.

  • Scholarship in the area of health disparities research, global health, or policy.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

  • Strong commitment to educational excellence and innovation.

  • Evidence of engaging with diverse communities to understand and incorporate their health needs and perspectives.

  • Knowledge of Statistical software such as SAS or Stata, while having the ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and communicate results in a clear and concise manner.

  • Must be flexible, reliable, and responsible with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

  • Global health field experience or applied research in international or underserved domestic settings, with cultural competency.
