Role & responsibilities

Senior Azure Data Engineer Microsoft Fabric Specialist (Freelance / Contract)

  • Design, build, and deliver end-to-end data engineering solutions using Microsoft Fabric for enterprise-scale analytics workloads.
  • Architect and implement Fabric Lakehouse solutions using Delta Lake and Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers).
  • Develop and manage Fabric Data Pipelines for scalable ETL/ELT orchestration and data ingestion from multiple sources.
  • Build reusable Dataflows Gen2 for standardized transformations and business logic.
  • Develop Fabric Notebooks using PySpark for advanced data processing, transformations, and validations.
  • Implement and optimize Fabric Warehouse and SQL Endpoints for analytical querying and reporting workloads.
  • Work with Fabric Real-Time Analytics (KQL) for streaming and near-real-time data use cases.
  • Manage OneLake for unified data storage, access control, and cross-workspace data sharing.
  • Integrate Power BI within Fabric workspaces, including semantic model creation, dataset optimization, and report performance tuning.
  • Ensure data governance, lineage, data quality, and monitoring using Fabric-native capabilities.
  • Optimize performance across Lakehouse, Warehouse, pipelines, and SQL endpoints for cost and query efficiency.
  • Integrate Fabric solutions with Azure Data Factory, external sources, and downstream analytics platforms as required.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps for Fabric artifacts and notebooks.
  • Troubleshoot complex data pipeline failures and performance bottlenecks independently.
  • Provide technical guidance, best practices, and architectural recommendations for Microsoft Fabric adoption.
  • Collaborate remotely with stakeholders while maintaining full ownership of assigned deliverables in a freelance/contract model.

Preferred candidate profile

  • 812 years of experience as an Azure Data Engineer, with strong hands-on expertise in Microsoft Fabric.
  • Proven ability to own and deliver Fabric workloads independently in a freelance / contract setup.
  • Strong proficiency in PySpark and SQL, with solid understanding of modern data engineering practices.
  • Experience working with CI/CD (Azure DevOps) in data engineering projects.
  • Comfortable working part-time, 100% remotely, with outcome-based delivery expectations.
  • Self-driven, reliable, and able to collaborate effectively in a distributed team environment.
