Head of Environment, Health, and Safety

Position Overview

The Head – Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) provides strategic and operational leadership for developing, implementing, and maintaining a world-class HSE framework across the organization's operations.

The role ensures legal compliance, risk mitigation, and promotion of a safety-first culture, while aligning HSE initiatives with business strategy and international best practices. The position serves as the company's Principal HSE Authority for all regulatory, statutory, and compliance matters.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership
2. Define and execute the company's HSE vision, policy, and strategy.
3. Set corporate-level HSE goals, targets, and KPIs, and map it to various offices/ business divisions
4. Develop a global HSE governance structure.

5. Drive organizational commitment toward Zero Harm and Zero Non-Compliance.

6. Legal & Statutory Compliance

7. Ensure adherence to the applicable HSE laws and regulations

8. Ensure documentation as per the legal requirements
9. Liaise with authorities for inspections, permits, and renewals.
10. Ensure all licenses, approvals, and consents are valid.
11. Serve as the company's representative for audits and statutory matters.

12. Legal handling of the HSE-related incidents at site/company premises

13. HSE Management Systems & Governance, Audits

14. Develop and maintain Corporate HSE Management System (ISO 45001 / ISO

15. Conduct internal audits, periodic site audits, inspections, and risk assessments.
16. Oversee incident investigations and ensure closure of corrective actions.

17. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Oversee environmental audits and reporting.

18. Risk Management & Operational Safety

19. Ensure the following work-related safety documents are made and updated at all times:

i.     Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment (HIRA) for all activities of ABS

ii.     Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for all work activities conducted at client site

iii.     Safety manuals of the tools and equipment being used in the company

iv.     HSE related certifications

1. Develop and maintain a central repository of all such documents for storage and traceability of these documents.
2. Ensure compliance with Safe Work Procedures and Permit-to-Work systems.

3. Lead emergency preparedness and response planning.

4. Training & Culture Building

5. Ensure Tool-Box Talks are delivered daily on site

6. Ensure the workmen are trained in site-specific safety norms before start of the job and review documentation of the same
7. Develop and implement framework for HSE trainings, awareness programs (in office/ on-site), and ensure its adherence- manpower safety/ workplace safety/ tool safety
8. Drive Behavior-Based Safety and employee participation through rewards & recognition programs

9. Build a culture of accountability and compliance.

10. Safety Material & Equipment Management

11. Monitor PPE procurements and distribution as per the site requirement

12. Manage the HSE equipment vendors with cost efficiency

13. Ensure all safety equipment is maintained in deployable state

14. Reporting & Continuous Improvement

15. Visit the major working sites across India (international sites if required) for meeting the client, auditing the safe work practices and training the workmen

16. Facilitate management reviews of HSE reports and monitor KPI achievement.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical, or related field).
• Postgraduate Diploma / Master's in Industrial Safety or Environmental Management preferred.
• NEBOSH / IOSH / ISO 45001 Lead Auditor certifications preferred.
• 15–20 years of progressive HSE experience, including 5 years in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of industrial safety, environmental, and legal compliance frameworks.
