Purpose of Role:

Responsible for setting up, programming, and operating CNC Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) machines to manufacture high-quality components in line with engineering specifications and safety standards. The role ensures precision machining, equipment efficiency, and adherence to Weir's zero-harm and continuous improvement culture.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviors in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture.

• Prepare and operate CNC Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) machines for production of precision-engineered parts.

• Read and interpret technical drawings, job orders, and machining instructions.

• Set tool offsets, adjust parameters, and ensure optimal cutting conditions for each operation.

• Verify component accuracy using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, vernier calipers, and gauges.

• Perform routine equipment checks and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

• ITI or Diploma in Turner / Machinist / Mechanical Engineering.

• 4+ years of hands-on experience operating CNC Vertical Turning Lathe (VTL) machines in a manufacturing or heavy engineering environment.

• Strong understanding of machining processes, cutting parameters, and tool selection.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.

• Proficient in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, and gauges.

• Working knowledge of CNC programming systems (Fanuc / Siemens preferred).

• Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and housekeeping on the shop floor.
