A Design Engineer for pressure vessels and tanks is responsible for the design, analysis, and documentation of equipment that holds fluids or gases under pressure. Key duties include creating detailed drawings using CAD software, performing design calculations, selecting materials, and ensuring compliance with industry codes like ASME. This role requires collaboration with various teams, including manufacturing, procurement, and clients, to deliver safe and reliable products. Key responsibilities

  • Design and analysis: Perform mechanical, thermal, and structural design and analysis for pressure vessels, storage tanks, and other related static equipment.
  • Drafting and documentation: Create detailed design calculations, fabrication drawings, 3D models (using software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks), and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Code compliance: Ensure all designs adhere to relevant industry standards and regulations (e.g., ASME, API, PD5500) and safety rules.
  • Material selection: Select appropriate materials, thickness, and welding procedures based on design specifications and operating conditions.
  • Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including project managers, clients, and other engineers, to define requirements and solve problems.
  • Technical support: Provide technical support during fabrication, inspection, and testing phases.
  • Review and revision: Review vendor drawings, calculations, and other documents. Revise designs based on feedback from clients, manufacturing, or testing.

Qualifications and skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is typically required. A Master's degree and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license is often preferred.
  • Experience: Several years of experience in pressure vessel design are often required.

  • Technical skills:

  • Strong knowledge of pressure vessel design codes (e.g., ASME Section VIII) and international codes.

  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).

  • Familiarity with welding procedures and testing requirements.

  • Soft skills: Strong communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills are essential.
